Woman Transported to Hospital After Crash with Semi

A Prescott woman was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope after the front of her car was run over by a semi on Highway 371 in Blevins.

Carolyn Smith, of Prescott, was stopped in her Nissan Versa, facing south, at the stop sign on Highway 29 at the intersection of Highway 371 in Blevins at about 1:40 p.m., when she reportedly pulled out into the highway and into a passing tractor trailer driven by Chris Gates of Nashville. Gates said he attempted to avoid Smith’s Nissan but had nowhere to go on the narrow highway. Smith’s Nissan impacted the driver side drive tires of the truck and was then struck by the trailer’s jack and run over by the trailer’s rear axles. Neither Smith or Gates were reported to have been traveling at unsafe speeds and Smith had come to a complete stop before pulling out into the highway. The damage to the car’s exterior was limited to the front end but the collision did cause the airbags to deploy and strike Smith. The crash left the intersection partially blocked.

Arkansas State Police, Hemstead County Sheriff’s Office and a Sevier County Deputy, who was passing through the area at the time, responded to the scene. Deputies controlled traffic through the scene and assisted Trooper Darren Henley with his investigation.

Blevins First Responders were on scene to tend to the occupants involved until a Pafford EMS crew could arrive on scene. Pafford transported Smith to Wadley in Hope.
