The Hope Police Department has suspended the active search but are still on the lookout for a woman who witnesses said was struck and run over by her boyfriend with his car in Hope Thursday afternoon.
The woman is described as a 42-year-old white female with dark red hair, wearing a black tank top and jeans. She went missing after reportedly being run over and walking away from the scene around 2:30 p.m. She was allegedly struck and run over with a green Dodge Neon driven by Luke Haddix, approx. 20, of Corpus Christi, TX.
According to Hope Police Chief JR Wilson, a witness reported that the car entered the yard at the northwest corner of E. 3rd St. and S. Spruce St. in pursuit of the woman. The witness told officers that the car struck her hard and ran over her, rolling her up. Chief Wilson said the witness told them that the woman got up and walked away to the east. The Hope Police Department, Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office and Pafford EMS were unable to locate the woman immediately after the call and believed she had been transported to the hospital, but she never showed up at the emergency room. An active search of the area for more than two hours failed to locate the woman. The Hope Police Department issued a BOLO for the woman and said they are concerned for her well-being and are unsure of the extent of her injuries.
Haddix allegedly left the scene after striking the woman, who a family member said he was dating, but left a trail of transmission fluid to his location after striking the concrete patio and busting the transmission of the car. He was located at a residence where he had been staying on S. Greening where he was taken into custody and his car impounded. According to a resident at the house, Haddix attempted to hide and was resistant to being taken into custody. Haddix was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope. HPD doesn’t yet know what charges he will face but they are starting with hit-and-run.
If you see a woman matching the description, call 911 immediately. Due to the nature of what was reported to have happened, she may have suffered serious injuries.
