Back on March 24, Hope’s Family Dollar store had caught fire and was a total loss. Fast forward to November 8, and just in time for the holiday shopping season, a brand new Family Dollar store has been rebuilt and officially reopened its doors for business one week ago.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, Kayleigh Painter, who is Dollar Tree’s manager of Investor and Media Relations at its headquarters in Chesapeake, VA, said “We are proud to serve the Hope community again. We officially reopened on Thursday, November 8 at that location.”
Dollar Tree is the corporate parent of Family Dollar stores.
Painter said the new and improved Hope Family Dollar store features 7,431 square feet of retail space and typically employs 6-to-10 associates.
“Family Dollar stores are open seven days a week and offer everyday items for the entire family in an easy-to-shop neighborhood location,” Painter said about the new store, rebuilt at its old address at 815 South Main Street.
Over the past week, the lights were on; the store was appropriately decorated for the holiday season, and customers were inside.
It was a remarkable turnaround for Family Dollar in Hope after the March 24 fire had render the store and its building a total loss. Over the summer, the lot was cleared and an all new facility was built from scratch, nearly identical to the original one.
At the time of the fire at the original building on March 24, a Hope Fire Dept. spokesperson said, “Fire crews were there well over four hours, until about 2:07 that afternoon. The building and the merchandise inside were a total loss.”
No injuries were reported to either customers, employees or fire personnel, and everyone was evacuated safely during the March 24 incident.
Family Dollar was acquired by Dollar Tree in a merger agreement in July 2015. According to its investor profile, “Dollar Tree, a Fortune 500 Company, now operates more than 13,600 stores across 48 states and five Canadian provinces. Stores operate under the brands of Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree Canada, Deals and Family Dollar.”
The investor profile also states that “Dollar Tree is the nation’s leading operator of fixed price point stores, selling everything for $1 or less, and Family Dollar is a leading national operator of multi-price point stores providing value conscious consumers with a selection of competitively priced merchandise in convenient neighborhood stores.”
A Dollar Tree store is also in Hope, located at 1301 N Hervey St.
