The Prescott Curley Wolves lost to the Bearcats in overtime 35-36 Friday night. This is a back to back loss in overtime for Prescott and moves their record to (0-2) for the season, while Mena starts their season off (2-0).
Prescott started the night off slow, allowing Mena to score twice early in the first quarter and were not able to move the ball when they had it.
Coming out in the second quarter, Mena was able to get a field goal and during Prescott’s last drive of the half #5, Jacobi Nolen, connected with #11, Jeffery Williams, for a 39 yard touchdown reception to make it 7-15 at the half.
In the second half, the Curley Wolves came out moving the ball great, with the opening drive ending in a 4 yard TD run from #5, Jacobi Nolen, and the next drive ending in a 5 yard TD pass to #34, Jacob Jackson. The Bearcats scored as well, and the 3rd quarter ended at 20-22.
Mena was able to punch it in early in the 4th quarter, bringing the score to 20-29. During the next drive, Prescott was able to move the ball down the field with a 9 yard TD run from #35, Alex George, but missed the extra point to make the score 26-29 Mena on top.
After a couple of unproductive drives on both ends, Prescott was unable to get in the end zone with a touchdown and kicker #25, Luis Rabadan tied the game with a 24 yard field goal. With no time left on the clock, the field goal made it 29-29 at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Bearcats received the ball first and punched it into the end zone and made the extra point making it 36-29. When the Curley Wolves got the ball they drove the ball quickly and punched it in with a short TD run from Nolen. Prescott decided to go for 2 to seal the win. For the 2-point conversion, Prescott overloaded the right side and tried a quarterback sweep with Nolen, but were stopped just shy of the pylon, ending the game 35-36 Mena.
The Curley Wolves take a week off and come back to face the Hope Bobcats on September 20.
