The kids of First United Methodist Church (FUMC) made the rounds to several local banks on Thursday morning for Christmas greetings and songs, the last stop of which was the First National Bank of Tom Bean at 301 North Hervey, which itself was celebrating the one year anniversary of its still-new bank building and community facility. At one point, the bank’s lobby was nearly wall to wall, shortly after 10:15 a.m., and by 10:30, the crowd departed almost as quickly as it had arrived. The bank had its 16-foot tree fully lit and the lobby and community facility decorated for the occasion. The new banking facility had opened its doors to customers on December 18, 2017. With Christmas now five days away, most local school kids enjoyed a half-day Thursday, and will have a half-day Friday before a two-week holiday recess.
